When we seek to change the world, when we seek to change our own minds and build the minds of our children, I suggest there is a better way: Fiction.
Literature is a type of art specially crafted to challenge the way you think about the world. To make the reader uneasy, to get them to question the way they think. If we censored those books and silenced the authors, we would lose a valuable chance to gain insight into the way people think and check our own biases and preconceptions.
And then one day during quarantine, between homes and jobs, I hunch over a laptop in my uncle’s basement and set myself to completing this silly little fan fiction. But this time, I allow myself to pretend that this is what I get to do every day for the rest of my life. I didn’t expect to come alive.
